Wedding photography at The Lost Village of Dode
Located not far from Rochester Kent is The Lost Village of Dode, this hidden gem offers a lovely alternative wedding venue. Built in the reign of William Rufus, the son of the Conqueror, the Chapel has stood for 900 years in beautiful meadows not far from Cuxton. With straw on the floors and lit by candles and braziers wedding photographs never looked better in this romantic setting. Whether a disc only package or story book package is chosen my attention to detail is always included, capturing each moment of the wedding.
Licensed as a civil wedding venue the building is ideal for up to forty five guests. The wedding breakfast can also be held there with hog roasts, keeping in the spirit of the location. There is accommodation on site in the form of two cottages, these were built to celebrate the Millennium and are built from English oak with period details. This is where my coverage normally starts with the bridal preparations. The comfortable cottages have plenty of room for the bride and bridesmaids to be photographed before the wedding. The cottages have a sitting room, kitchen, shower room and bedroom. One even has a hot tub! The cottages are sometimes often used as a retreat.
It is a few yards walk to the chapel for the wedding ceremony and there are ample photo opportunities during the ceremony. It has a nice feel with the candles and natural light. There is also a minstrels gallery which I use for an alternative view. Up in the gallery is normally where musicians are seated. Once the register has been signed it is time to move outside to the lawn area where drinks are served and the photography can begin of the family groups. Here I normally start with the bride and groom and work up through the family shots to a group shot of everyone. During these photographs I also take reportage shots of the bride and groom and guests.
Once these pictures are done I take the bride and groom around the grounds using the pagan stones and meadows for those special shots. There is also a pond and willow tree which is ideal for the romantic pictures of the bride and groom. All my packages can be put online for the bride and groom so they can share the images with family and friends from anywhere in the world via their unique password. When the cake photographs are done it is time for the wedding breakfast and celebrations to begin. Family and friends can be seated on long tables in a banquet style. As a local photographer this is an ideal venue for me and is one of my favourites.
